Design Associate

Job Description:  We are looking for a highly motivated Design Associate to join our design team. In this role, you will assist the Designer in pricing, printing, preparing drawings and presentations in AutoCAD, and various Excel programs, for different lines of custom CPH products. Presentations vary from job to job based on client needs, rooms being designed, and Designer specifications. You will act as liaison to clients throughout all stages of the project, assisting the Designer by discussing design solutions to meet client needs and expectations and providing clients with revisions to designs. You will assist the Designer with all aspects of management the projects from site surveys, meeting preparation, pricing for estimate, coordination of control samples, to practical completion, all while ensuring an exemplary client experience.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Works independently to interpret drawings, sketches, scanned images, customer drawings or specifications to accurately create AutoCAD drawings by drafting various CPH custom cabinetry floor plans and elevations, and apply basic technical details with accuracy, plot drawings, and file on CPH network
  • Responsible for cross referencing and accurately making changes between plans and elevations
  • Uses accepted CPH drawing standards as guidelines, but will regularly need to deviate from standards based on instructions from Designers and/or clients’ needs and special requirements
  • Collaborates with Designer during initial stages of a project to contribute to design layout, cabinet styles, color pallets, accessories, and finishes, estimating initial projects costs
  • Participates and interacts in initial presentation and other client meetings in showroom and on site with Designer
  • Works with Designer to measure job site spaces and add information to current drawings
  • May be responsible for some design elements
  • Maintains good communication with Designers, Tech and PM staff
  • Utilize CPH specification book to accurately price custom jobs (i.e., cabinetry, hardware, lighting, metal or wood hoods, panels, moldings, accessories, wooden countertops, etc.), which will vary based on client needs and Designer specifications, for initial presentations and contract
  • Generate "work requests" as work is in progress, complete contract request forms, delivery quotes, and delivery date change request forms at the direction of the Designer or PM
  • Review the Operations Schedule weekly and as necessary
  • Liaise with clients, design team or client representative to ensure clear project understanding for all parties.
  • Self-check own work for completeness and accuracy, meeting custom CPH standards
  • Assist with mailings and shipping packages to clients, to WV factory, and to other offices/showrooms as necessary
  • Responsible for ensuring that CPH standards, procedures, and technical details are followed by all parties
  • Help cultivate a positive atmosphere and perform as part of a team in the department with the common goal of completing work and meeting all deadlines
  • Will be required to perform other duties as requested, directed, or assigned

 

Job Requirements:

  • Associate’s degree, preferably in design related area
  • Minimum of 3 years of kitchen design experience
  • Strong proficiency in AutoCAD required; Sketch up or Revit a plus
  • Knowledge and proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Knowledge of cabinetry construction a plus
  • Must be able to read and interpret drawings and architectural plans; prepare accurate detailed drawings using information from Designers; operate computer using standard drafting software packages, plotters; develop AutoCAD drawings for design projects; maintain complete, readily accessible files and records of drawings, while saving files often and regularly
  • Knowledge of hand drafting principles, practices, methods and techniques; basic cabinetry and construction knowledge
  • Must be able to quickly and easily adapt to ongoing changes and modifications with designs, based on client needs
  • Strong attention to detail is required
  • Strong note taking skills
  • Identifying problems, analyze information, and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options, solve problems and implement solutions
  • Must be able to make decisions and work independently
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Solid ability to collaborate with Designers, Project Management, and Technical Design team members
  • Basic knowledge of residential construction
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills
  • Must be pro-active with good problem-solving skills
  • Must be highly organized, flexible/adaptable, and a self–starter
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and manage numerous projects in a timely and efficient manner
  • Must present in a professional and expert manner
  • Must be punctual and reliable
  • Must have reliable transportation to get to job sites at a moment’s notice
  • Ability to lift and move 25 pounds or more occasionally

 

 

This is a full-time position, and hours of work and days are Monday through Friday, 9 am to 5pm. Occasional early and evening work may be required as job duties demand.
